GOLDEN VISA

In 2012, Portugal approved a special legislation design to attract foreign investment and offer a way of non EU citizens to apply for a residence permit thought an investment.



Benefits

  1. Entering Portugal with a residence permit; 
  2. Travelling within the Schengen space without the need for a visa; 
  3. Possibility to apply for a permanent residence permit in Portugal at the end of the five years;
  4. Opportunity to apply for Portuguese nationality at the end of 5 years;
  5. Family Regrouping.

Requirements

  1. Must be a citizen of a Non-EU country; 
  2. Make an investment (under legally defined terms) in Portugal, which may be: real estate, in companies or capital transfers.  


Of Note: In view of the current war situation in Ukraine, the Golden Visa for Russian and Belarusian citizens is currently suspended. 


Renovation of the Golden Visa

  • Maintain the investment for a period of 5 years. 
  • Respect the minimum periods of permanence in Portugal.


The residence card has an initial duration of two years and is renewable for two equal periods. The cardholder must stay in Portugal for at least 14 consecutive or interspersed days in any two-year period.

REAL ESTATE INVESTMENT

How to apply

  •  Acquisition of real estate worth 500.000 € or more (the investment amount can be reduced to 400.000 € in low density territories);
  • Acquisition of real estate, whose construction has been concluded at least 30 years ago or located in an area of urban rehabilitation and execution of rehabilitation works on the acquired real estate, for an overall amount equal to or greater than 350.000 € (the investment amount can be reduced to 280.000 € in low density territories).



Forms of property acquisition

  • As an individual;
  • In joint ownership, provided that the Golden Visa Applicant invests an amount equal or higher than the minimum investment amount;
  • Through a limited company of which the Applicant is a partner, with its head office in Portugal or in another member state of the European Union.
